Solutions to common issues with Balance Budget.

Troubleshooting

Quick fixes for the most common issues. If your problem isn’t listed here, email hello@balancebudget.app.

Bank Won’t Connect

Temporary outages between Plaid and your bank are common. Try again in a few hours. Double-check your credentials by logging into your bank’s website directly. If it still won’t connect after 24 hours, contact hello@balancebudget.app with your bank name. See Bank Accounts for more.

Bank Keeps Disconnecting

Banks sometimes require re-authentication after a password change or security update. Go to the Accounts tab, tap the account with the error, and reconnect through Plaid. If it keeps happening, contact support with your bank name.

Transactions Not Syncing

Pull down on the transactions page to refresh manually. If new transactions aren’t appearing, check that the account is still connected (no error indicator). Some banks can take up to 24 hours to send new transactions through Plaid. If it’s been longer, contact support.

Transfers Showing as Expenses

Money moving between your own accounts (checking to savings, credit card payments) can show up as expenses. Open the transaction, toggle Transfer on, and it will be excluded from your budget totals. Transfers no longer require a category to be resolved. See Transactions for details.

Budget Math Looks Wrong

Allocation over 100%: Your expense category totals exceed your income category totals. Reduce expense amounts or increase income categories. See Budgeting.

Extra income not showing as available: If you earned more than budgeted, the extra shows as over-budgeted income. It does not automatically increase your spending room. You need to manually increase the income category amount and then allocate the extra to expense categories. See Budgeting.

Can’t See Transactions for a Specific Category

Tap the category on the Budget or home page to see all transactions in that category for the current month. If it’s empty, check that transactions are categorized correctly using the uncategorized filter.
