What is Balance?
Balance is a budgeting app that connects to your bank accounts and organizes your transactions into budget categories. It’s designed for couples to manage money together with shared access and full visibility.
Is Balance just for couples?
No. Balance works great for individuals too. The partner feature is optional. If you’re budgeting solo, skip the partner setup and use it as a personal budgeting app.
How is Balance different from other budgeting apps?
Balance is built around a shared account model for couples. Both partners share login credentials and get their own profile within one account. There are no separate accounts, no invite links, and no split permissions. Both people see everything and can manage everything. See Sharing with Your Partner.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Balance connects to your bank through Plaid, which uses bank-level encryption and read-only access. Balance never sees or stores your banking credentials. See Security.
Does my partner need their own account?
No. Both partners use the same email and password to log in. Each person gets their own profile within the shared account. One subscription covers both of you. See Sharing with Your Partner.
How do transfers work?
When money moves between your own accounts (checking to savings, credit card payments), those transactions can show up as income or expenses. Open the transaction, toggle Transfer on, and it will be excluded from your budget totals. Transfers are automatically resolved and don’t require a category. See Transactions.
What happens after my free trial ends?
Your account becomes inactive. You are not charged unless you actively subscribe. No credit card is required for the trial. If you subscribe later, all your data is still there. See Subscription & Billing.
How do I handle variable or irregular income?
Update your income category amounts as money comes in throughout the month. For expenses that happen irregularly (annual insurance, car repairs), enable carry-over/rollover on those categories and budget a small amount each month. The balance builds up like a sinking fund until you need it.
How do I view transactions for a specific category?
Tap any category on the Budget or home page to see all transactions in that category for the current month.
How do I delete my account?
Email hello@balancebudget.app from your registered email address with the subject line “Account Deletion Request.” Your request will be processed within 30 days. See the Account Deletion page for details.
How much does Balance cost?
$5.99/month or $4.99/month billed annually ($59.99/year). Every account starts with a 30-day free trial, no credit card required. See Subscription & Billing.
